Abi Moore - Lincoln Album Launch

On Friday 16th June 2006 Lincolnshire singer Abi Moore released her debut album and first promo video. "I'm very proud to have completed my first album and video without any financial backing."

"The biggest achievement is that I have recorded, mixed, edited and produced the album myself when I struggled to even switch my digital recorder on this time last year!"

Not words you might hear from your average 23 year-old from Lincolnshire.
Abi's musical story began via the usual route of appearing in school plays and musicals, joining various bands and choirs such as the Lincolnshire Youth Symphony Orchestra and Boston Youth Jazz Orchestra. Even as a child, Abi made the decision that music was not just going to be a hobby, and by the time she was 17 and about to sit her A levels, she was working for numerous agents across the country singing covers professionally.

She began to audition frequently in London and soon landed herself a solo in a West End show at the London Palladium and as her career moved on, even opened football matches at the Huddersfield Galpharm Stadium in front of 10,000 people.

After a few years, unimpressed with the pretentiousness and superficiality of the showbiz world, and in the midst of a few personal tragedies, she began to write her own material. With no band, she wanted to accompany her voice somehow and so taught herself guitar and piano. She has never looked back.

Abi has since played with Ultravox’s Midge Ure, the Jools Holland Band guitarist Mark Flanagan, and at the BBC 6 Music’s Summer Sundae Weekender with acts such as Kasabian, Ordinary Boys, Air and the Super Furry Animals.

After a long time building up the right backing band, Abi knew from her audience’s reactions that it was time to record an album. She took most of 2005 off from performing, and without funding or a label backing and no money for studio time, she bought herself a digital recorder. She threw herself into the recording process wholeheartedly and spent every waking moment working on her debut album "The Aftermath of ’96," which was released on 16th June 2006 at the Lincoln Drill Hall.

When describing the album, Abi says, "The title is meant to reflect on the past decade of my life. It's almost a diary account as to what went on in those years and how I came out the other side. It's a 10- song piece of work that I hope a lot of people can relate to."

Abi also recorded a new video for one of the album tracks "The Prophecy" with local film production company Blue Dog Films, complete with CGI and green screen effects, which had its debut screening at Abi’s album launch concert.

"The launch night was fantastic. I wanted to organise something a little different for music fans in Lincolnshire so I played the album tracks with a 10-piece band of fantastic musicians, and showed the video on a large screen."

And her plans for the future?

"I'm not interested in fame and fortune anymore. I learned early on that neither of those things make you happy, in fact I imagine they do the opposite. Honestly what I want from this album is to find an independent label who can offer the financial support to allow me to write, record and tour for the rest of my life. I don't want to be waited on hand and foot, I want to work hard and have a consistent career I can be proud of."
And who could argue with that?
