Finals Night was on Thursday 11th October at Spilsby Theatre. The competition is designed to encourage the writing of new folk songs that are relevant to our county. The choice of subject is entirely yours but the song must have a Lincolnshire background or a Lincolnshire feel. A distinguished panel of judges listened to all the entries received and a short-list was drawn up. The songs that made it through to the finals were performed live at the special finals night concert where the judges were present to make their final decision and select the winning song. The 10 Finalists1. The Ghost Of Grimsby - Written by Steve Cooper and performed with Ros Garrod-Mason. 2. Skegness - Written and performed by Alan Whittle. 3. Despair of the Rain - Written and performed by David Lockyer. 4. For Those Who Will Not Know Me - Written by John Blanks and Mark Addison. Performed by John Blanks. ![]() Dick Appleton performing his song 5. Tom's Song - Written By Geoff Convery and performed by Clarty Sough. 6. Proud To Be - Written and performed by Nigel Creasey and Terri Clarke. 7. Long Walk Home - Written by Carl and Robert Bakewell with Anna Sagona. The song was performed by Carl, Robert and Anna with Pete Russell. 8. The Miller's Daughter - Written and performed by Dick Appleton. 9. This Singing - Written by Angela King and performed with Paul Dickinson. 10. Coming Home To You - Written by Richard Langridge and perfromed with Kathryn O'Conner. The WinnersThe Millers Daughter by Dick Appleton won this years 'Write A Lincolnshire Folk Song Competition'. Help playing audio/video The winner of this years 'Performance Trophy' were Richard Langridge and Katheryn O'Conner with Coming Home To You. ![]() The Performance Trophy Performance TrophyWhile the competition remains principally a writers forum, the Musicians' Union, whose Folk, Roots and Traditional Music section now represents hundreds of musicians and writers involved in the genre, each year present their 'Performance Trophy'. This trophy was designed and created by Bridge Instruments, and is based upon their award winning Aquila electric fiddle. It's held for a year by the person adjudged to have given the best 'performance' of the evening in terms of enhancing the song. Have a listen to some of the winning tracks from previous years:
