The Great Australian Breakfast 2006

Lincoln celebrated Australia Day on the 29th January when the Great Australian Breakfast was held at the Lawns.

This was the fifteenth time the Great Australian breakfast has been held and it marks the city's links with Port Lincoln in Australia. It is the biggest celebration of its kind in Britain and was held to raise money for charity.

There were one thousand two hundred sausages, three thousand five hundred rashers of bacon, one thousand eight hundred eggs and two hundred and fifty loaves of bread on offer for people to eat when doors opened at 9am.

Celebrities at the event included BBC Look North's Peter Levy, Lincoln MP Gillian Merron and the Mayor of Lincoln Adelle Ellis. From BBC Radio Lincolnshire Rod Whitting, Veronica Capaldi and Dave Bussey attended the event with Melvyn Prior hosting the entertainment.

A typical £4.50 breakfast consists of:

  • One Cup of tea/coffee
  • One Cup of soft drink
  • One sausage
  • Two rashers of bacon
  • One plum tomato
  • Bread/toast
  • One fried egg
  • *A vegetarian option is available*

As many ingredients as possible used in the breakfast are sourced locally.

Local companies donate almost every item of food and drink, which means that nearly every penny raised is donated to charity.

Charities for 2006:

  • The Mayor of Lincoln's chosen charity - B.A.B.I.E.S
  • Lincolnshire Echo's chosen charity 'SPLASH'
  • BBC Radio Lincolnshire's Gold Appeal
