Bailey makes Team England

Stamford's Tania Bailey has been announced as a member of the 10-strong Team England squash team for Melbourne, announced by the Commonwealth Games Council for England in late October 2005.

Tania Bailey, who won silver partnering Cassie Jackman in the women's doubles in Manchester, returns to Commonwealth Games action in Melbourne, where four of England's five women players feature in the world's current top 10. Tania is currently placed at 10th, but is closing in on those above her.

Tania says: "I'm really looking forward to it now. I obviously didn't know until this week that I'd been picked, although I was hoping I would be picked. But once you get the call and know that you're definitely going, that's when you can really think about it."

Tania recently spoke with BBC Radio Lincolnshire's Melvyn Prior where she told him more about her life.

England's players can expect some stiff competition in Melbourne, with many of the world's top players from Commonwealth countries.

England's squash pairings for the doubles competitions will be announced nearer to the Commonwealth Games.

Ann Hogbin, Chef de Mission of Team England at the Commonwealth Games, said: "I would like to congratulate members of the squash team on their selection for Melbourne and welcome them to the Team England team for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. I would also like to wish them the very best of luck in their preparations for Melbourne and at the Game themselves."

The full England squash team for Melbourne 2006 is:

  1. Tania Bailey - Stamford, Lincolnshire.
  2. Lee Beachill - Pontefract, West Yorkshire.
  3. Vicky Botwright - Manchester.
  4. Jenny Duncalf - Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
  5. Linda Elriani - Eastbourne, East Sussex.
  6. Adrian Grant - Halifax, West Yorkshire.
  7. Nick Matthew - Sheffield.
  8. Peter Nicol - London.
  9. Alison Waters - London.
  10. James Willstrop - Pontefract.

Team England finished second in the squash medals table in Manchester with one gold, two silvers and four bronzes, behind New Zealand, who won two golds and a silver medal.

The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games run from 15th to 26th March, 2006.
