Catching a boat back
Reaching the destination of the Pyewipe Inn can allow you the chance of either a meal - if you arrive during serving times or a drink and if you talk with the Captain of Cathedral City Cruises before you leave the Brayford Pool you can arrange to be picked up for a cruise back along the canal.

The boat turning for its return trip

The return walk can equally rewarding and taken at a leisurely pace the walk both ways should take you less than an hour.

The word Pyewipe came from the local colloquial expression for a Plover or Lapwing often found around the low-lying areas of Lincolnshire, and the Inn was first licensed in 1778.

It was called Pyewipe House in those days and mainly served the numerous sailing barges traversing the Fossedyke. By 1804 the maps show it as Pyewipe Inn, the Inn being officially brought under the Justices Licensing Act in 1897.
