Dan Wheldon has just won at Richmond for Andretti Green Racing and
is in danger of winning the whole season, so if you like motor sport
but haven't taken much notice of American Indy racing, have a look
at this game because this is a very exciting thing, whether it be
real or simulated.
I paid
£39.99 for the last version of Indycar and was impressed with
it, so after playing Indycar 2005 for many hours, I've stuck the
original in to compare them.
I thought
I'll just play a couple of laps on my favourite track Nazareth and
"blimey!" I ended up completing a full distance race.
Then I went back to the future and played on full distance in 2005.
This
is a very similar experience. Although the graphics have improved,
it felt a little slower and the engine's scream had been toned down
a little.
Unless the original game had made me deaf because this is a wonderful
sounding game and it pays to turn the volume up.
The
physics of this game are superb, turning left has never been so
much fun and you stay very close to your colleagues, all 25 of them.
The
best position to drive from is inside the cockpit with the two large
tyres visible either side of you. Although you can view outside
of the car, this is less precise and it is very important to stay
on the racing line in this game as anywhere else puts you into the
wall, especially without help such as traction control etc.
For
anyone who doesn't know, Indy racing is America's Formula One and
like F1, we build most of the cars and Nigel Mansell won it once.
I bought
Indycar after GP4 failed to make its appearance on the Xbox and
it goes some way towards satisfying that hole.
On
easy, this game is fun and arcade-like, but on Normal and Pro it
becomes a very clever simulation so there's something for everybody.
The
feeling of real exhilaration is present in this game so I can only
recommend you go and buy it.
8/10
