Infectious fun or RnB lite?
Daniel Bedingfield
Daniel Bedingfield resorted to using a megaphone during power cuts on stage
Radio One provide their weakest line-up ever and should have put Daniel Bedingfield on last instead of first. So says reviewer Kevin Hewick

Daniel Bedingfield suffers two powercuts. Unphased he keeps the audience clapping along, and with stage power restored but still off-air from Radio 1 he and his band improvise slick take offs of Justin Timberlake and Michael Jackson.

Chris Moyles
Moyles hosted the show at Victoria Park

He's hot on his own stuff too including a reggae version of "Gotta get through this". But it's best to finish with your best act not start with it.. ..and its by far the weakest ever line up of Radio 1's now annual Leicester bash reflected in the 80,000 crowd being 20,000 down on previous years.

When Big Brovas announce "This is Big Bro'/Taking over the show" - they very nearly do but their drippy new single - pure So Soppy Crew - and the abysmal "My Favourite Things" are a waste of the clear talent and vitality onstage.

Despite so many line up changes that they are now their own tribute band Electric Six turn Victoria Park into one big "Gay Bar". Plenty of "High Voltage" and "Radio Ga Ga" too. Nice.

Mis-Teeq are on a roll right now, RnB lite maybe - but when it's this well done who's arguing? They look like they're having fun as they cavort with their boy dancers, and that sense of fun is infectious..

Athlete
Athlete should have been "booed off"

Radiohead too weird now? Coldplay too angst riven?? Travis too long between albums??? Well, just for you, those folks at EMI A&R have assembled Athlete from kit form. I've clearly gone totally mad - Athlete are the future of music right? It's amazing they weren't booed off.

Banners and small children are held aloft. The people's choice is Busted. I first saw them a year ago and hated it but they are part of our pop landscape now.. we have to live with it. To be fair they really sing and really play.. but where's the trademark leaping about..?

They seem like the tired old men of fake punk rock, already burned out at 18.. Their vocals on "What I go to school for" are so bad I half want Athlete back. More like Knackered than Busted. Odd..

Kelly Rowland is, I'm sure, a lovely talented person and an integral part of Destinys Child but she's no Beyonce and no headline act either. She's OK and that's all. She wears one of those tops Knowles also often sports - you know the ones that blow up like big balloons or Chris Moyle's head.

The good review

Bridget Blair had a completely different view of Radio One's biggest live music event in Leicester - she felt it had been another great free concert! Check out Bridget's review.
