Margaret knew she was onto something when local baker Colin Holder started sneaking current buns out for her and her friends.

Colin and Margaret have known each other since childhood. She said: "He was my first boyfriend. I've never had anyone else. We used to play together when I was about 10 or 11."

The couple used to go to the pictures together. Margaret said: "He always used to walk me home to the gate." Colin said: "Her Dad would be waiting at there at 10 o'clock."

After getting engaged, the couple were separated for two years when Colin was called up to serve in the Air Force. They married on his return when Margaret was 18 and Colin was 20. Their first child was born when Margaret was 21.

Margaret said: "We've always lived in Earl Shilton. We found a tumble-down little place and paid 50 pence a week for it but we really loved it. We lived there for a couple of years and eventually we moved to a prefab."

The couple now have five children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Margaret said: "We love all our grandchildren to bits but when your great-grandchildren start coming, it's an extra bonus. It's lovely that they keep coming to see us."

Margaret puts their successful marriage down to "being good friends first".
