| Until
now, mobiles have joined the rubbish mountain |
And next year around
10m mobiles are expected to be thrown away in the UK as people upgrade
their phones.
Leicestershire
County Council has set up new facilities at all its waste management
sites.
Alongside disposing of household rubbish, and recycling glass, steel
and aluminium, people will now be able to recycle their old phones.
The mobiles will mostly be repaired or refurbished and sold to third
world countries. Each phone can make up to £10, for charity.
Those that are beyond repair will be broken down, and the different
parts like batteries and plastics recycled.
