The Leicester
Haymarket Theatre is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of
composer Richard Rodgers' birth with one of the classic shows
from the heyday of the American musical comedy. A new production
of On Your Toes by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart, directed
by Paul Kerryson will run at the theatre from 3rd
- 25th May 2002.
The Leicester Haymarket is also delighted to announce that
the multi award-winning dancer Adam Cooper will choreograph
and play the lead role on Junior in this new production. Adam
has spent many years as a principal with the Royal Ballet
and starred in Motion Pictures productions
of Swan Lake and Cinderella. He is also widely known for his
appearance as the adult Billy Elliot at the end of the hit
British film.
On Your
Toes contains some of the best songs written by Rogers and
Hart. With one of the most exciting and exhilarating dance
routines written for musical theatre, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue,
On Your Toes promises to be a real treat in Richard Rodgers'
centenary year.
Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart wrote 27 musicals in 25
years together, completing over 1,000 songs. In On Your Toes,
ex-hoofer Junior Dolan persuades a Russian dance company to
perform his friend's dance/ballet. He becomes romantically
involved with the sexually voracious prima ballerina, changes
his name to Juniorvich Dolanski upsets the jealous male lead
and finds himself the target of a hired assassin with hilarious
consequences.
With Paul Kerryson's superb repuation as a director of musicals,
On Your Toes promises to be one of the most beautiful, lavish
and extravagant show ever produced at the Leicester Haymarket
Theatre.
