City band
Sophomore are suddenly everyone's best friend in their bid
to win a competition for national airplay and a support slot
with one of their favourite bands.
The four
members, are calling on long-lost relatives and old schoolmates
to vote for them in the Radio One competition to play with
US rock band Jimmy Eat World at Rock City in Nottingham.
Sophomore
have already made it to the top three of the competition hosted
by Radio One DJ Steve Lamacq and have received airplay on
his show. Now it's down to numbers to see which band wins
the coveted prize along with a session on his show
Bassist
Pete said the band had to submit a cover of a Jimmy Eat World
song along with some of their own tracks. He said of their
success: "It's pretty unbelievable for us. We're trying
to round up as many people as we can to vote for us. We've
had a good response from other Leicester bands. They've been
really supportive and have been getting their mates to vote
for us too."
Sophomore
have played live across the country, recently playing the
Barfly in Sheffield, Upstairs @ the Garage and the Rock Garden
in London, The Shed in Leicester and touring with the 'It's
a Scream Tour' playing venues in Liverpool, Newcastle, Hull
and Preston. Apart from Jimmy Eat World they site Foo Fighters,
Blink 182 and Bush as strong influences.
