Introducing... Becca O'Hara

Becca O'Hara is a singer-songwriter based in Leicester who has returned to music after a few years in the wilderness!

Singer-songwriter Becca O'Hara started off playing the piano but, after a lull in interest in her late teens, was inspired to pick up a guitar and hasn't looked back since:

"I realised that Leicester was where I was meant to be, because within a month I had a job, a house, a car, and a life here."

Becca O'Hara, singer-songwriter

"As I'm getting older I do feel that we've all got a kind of purpose, and actually you can kind of ignore it.

"Eventually it catches up with you and I've really felt that with music.

"It's something I've always wanted to do ever since I can ever remember, but I always thought that was a bit of a silly ambition because I thought everybody wanted to do it."

Listen: Interview and music from Becca O'Hara

BBC Leicester's Chris Baxter spoke to Becca about her music and life. Listen to the interview plus hear her perform her song 'Catch You When I'm Falling' live in the studio...

Becca really enjoys every part of being on stage singing her heart out, particularly now she has overcome her initial nerves:

"I feel totally at ease and perfectly blissfully happy when I perform... It just feels very natural."

However she still cringes at the idea of a member of her family coming to watch her play.

Living in Leicester

Before settling in Leicester in 2005 Becca lived in Gloucestershire, South Wales, Liverpool, Chelteham and abroad in Tanzania.

"Within a month of coming back I realised that Leicester was where I was meant to be, because within a month I had a job, a house, a car, and a life here.

"And every six months I say, 'I'm only here for a year you know'. Then every year goes past I stay another year, and another year..."
