Weather Watch

Phil from Leicestershire is passionate about the weather. He writes a weekly diary, with his weather predictions for the county for the week to come, and you can hear him on BBC Radio Leicester on Saturday mornings.

This week

This week still looks to be mainly dry, but the high pressure looks set to sit to the west of us. This will put is in a north easterly flow for much of the week.

"Mainly dry this week, but much more cloudy than last!"

Phil Morrish, Local Contributor

This will bring us a lot of cloud, but this may start to break up during the afternoons.

However expect Monday afternoon temperatures to reach about 17C, but it may creep up to 19C if the sun breaks through.

Night time temperatures should not drop below 8C.

There is a risk of some rain on Wednesday as a weak weather front tries to move north, but it should stay dry in Leicestershire.

The end of the week looks to be dry, but with that cool north easterly breeze.

So still mainly dry this week, but much more cloudy than last!

Last week

Well last week really was like a taste of summer!

On Monday temperatures started to warm up and on Tuesday they reached 24C as very warm air was fed up from the south.

The fine weather continued on Wednesday and for the rest of the week as a large area of high pressure settled over the country.

The air pressure reached 1038mbs on Thursday, which was highest pressure since March. The high left us with four days of almost continuous sunshine.

Between 11 and 12 hours of sunshine were recorded on each day between Wednesday and Saturday and this four day total produced more than 46 hours.

We have already had 75 hours of sunshine in September, which is two thirds of our  usual monthly total already!

The nights under the clear skies did start to cool down and at Cosby the air temperature dropped to just 3.5C on Thursday night.

An added bonus last week was that there was virtually no rain.

Sunday did see an expected change as the high moved a little further west and allowed much more cloud to come in from the north sea and this gave us a cloudy day on Sunday with temperatures of just 17C.
