Here is a list of the branches in our counties, plus listen to YOUR views... Twenty-five Post Offices in Leicestershire and Rutland are set to close. Post Office Ltd says it has to make the cuts to save money.
But it'll mean some villages will lose important services. The six-week public consultation period for our counties began on 20 November and all representations should be received by 10 January 2008. This formal period has been extended by 10 calendar days to allow for the Christmas and New Year breaks. Nationally, more than 2,500 branches are set to shut in this second wave of closures. The decision has been made because they're either not making enough money or the Post Offices are within three miles from another one. Listen: Braunstone Post OfficeGwen Abraham from Braunstone feels strongly about the proposed closure of her local Post Office. ![]() She has already been in discussions with the council, and says if it comes to it she will sit on a chair outside the building on strike! Help playing audio/video Listen: Barkby Post OfficeLeicestershire village look likely to loose their only Post Office under the move, meaning residents will have to travel to Syston to send packages and pay bills. One resident said, "I think it's typical of the erosion of the community now in the area, in fact all over the country". Parish Councillor Pam Green is urging the villagers to write off to their local MP in a stand against the decision. Speaking of the Henley Road PO Karen, a local resident, commented: "I look out of my window in the morning, especially on a Monday and Thursday, and they are queuing for the Post Office to open!"
