Leicester's Peter Harris

Peter Harris from Leicester

Amazon's Number One Reviewer

A man from Leicester has been named as the 'most influential reviewer' on the website of the internet store, Amazon. Peter Harris has written over 2,500 reviews for the site that have been seen by over 50,000 people.

Peter Harris from Leicester has been unveiled as Amazon's 'most influential reviewer'.

He started writing reviews for the website five years ago, and mostly writes about music, although he has also written about books.

BBC Leicester's Ben Jackson spoke to Peter Harris...

A pile of CDs

Some of Peter's reviews appear on both the English and American version of Amazon's website, meaning he has around 5,000 reviews on the web in total.

He doesn't own a computer so he goes to a local library to upload them onto the net, and says he enjoys contributing to the site:

"It's fun because I've got all this knowledge stored up inside me - obviously I've picked up a lot of knowledge about the music I listen to over the years and it's nice to be able to share it with people."

The Power of the Pen

Peter says he began writing reviews because he'd often buy music from Amazon that there wasn't any comments about, so he decided to do it himself.

He mostly reviews older albums and is often the only person to have written about them.

"Her sales shot up, just because I included her on a list."

Peter also compiles themed lists for the site - one of which gave American singer, Stacy Sullivan, a huge increase in album sales:

"Before I started reviewing I put a lot of lists on Amazon and I happened to include one of her CDs in one of the lists.

"She tracked me down as on the American site they have a message board attached to Amazon, so she tracked me down there.

"Her sales shot up, just because I included her on a list. I later reviewed the product and once she found out that I had no money she sent me her two subsequent CDs and I reviewed those as well. She's very happy."
