Meet Manish: The BBC's Future Face of Football

The youngest of our local legends is Manish Bhasin. Manish has presented Football Focus for four seasons. He started his career at BBC Radio Leicester and now can't believe he isn't dreaming. Listen to Manish in conversation with John Florance.

Manish is the youngest Leicestershire Legend. Perhaps it might be more accurate to say that he is a legend in the making.

Certainly he is tipped to become the future face of BBC sport and I can quite understand why.

Listen : Interterview with Manish Bhasin

BBC Leicester's John Florance spoke to Manish Bhasin...

To watch him on Football Focus, now in its fourth season, is to observe someone who is totally at home on the telly. He is easy, relaxed and witty.

He is also fully clued-up about soccer but not in any off-putting anorack-ish way. He just gives the winning impression that football is something he relishes talking about.

Star Struck

I went down to Television Centre to interview Manish and we spoke in the Football Focus production office.

He remains unapologetically star struck and as he showed me through the labyrinth that is TV Centre, he was full of tales about the people he comes into contact with from Jeremy Paxman to Bruce Forsyth.

He loves the BBC and being at its heart gives him a thrill.

You get the sense that he has to pinch himself to make sure he isn't dreaming about having a job he so clearly loves.

Success

Manish is a Leicester lad through and through. He loves the city, follows its sporting sides with alacrity and visits often.

I remember Manish coming to work at BBC Radio Leicester when he was in his teens. I've never heard anyone say a bad word about him and everyone who knows him thinks he deserves his success.

I caught a tube train with Manish after the interview and noticed a couple of folk smile as they recognised him. I am sure fame and success will not spoil him!
