Abbey Park in the centre of Leicester is set for a huge weekend of anniversary celebrations to celebrate 125 years of being open to the public. The park will host two days of family fun on the Whitsun Bank Holiday on Sunday 27 May and Monday 28 May 2007. Raise money for the Ruby Rainbow Appeal Entry to the park will be free, however everyone will be asked to make a donation to the Ruby Rainbow Appeal instead. BBC Radio Leicester will be broadcasting live from Abbey Park during the celebrations, and the Radio Leicester All Star Band (featuring various BBC Radio Leicester presenters including Tony Wadsworth, Monica Winfield and Chris Highton) will be performing. Fun for all the family! Other bands at the celebrations include The Displacements, The Dandilions, The Elite and The Midbeats.

There will also be many other forms of entertainment, from a display by the Red Devils freefall team, to a sports personality cricket match, to an assortment of funfair rides! The kids won't be left out either! There'll be plenty to do for them, including a miniature railway, soft play and children's entertainers. So come along to Abbey Park on the bank holiday weekend, enjoy the anniversary celebrations and help raise money for the Rainbows Children's Hospice near Loughborough!
