The Wonderful World of Waddo

BBC Radio Leicester presenter Tony Wadsworth gives you an insight into his life and the running of the Mid-Morning show. Meet the 'head of blame', radio car reporter Rupal, and the show's panel of experts...

Tony Wadsworth

Waddo works his magic!

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Waddo!

That's what they call me: Tony Wadsworth (among other things).

I'm a Leicester bloke through 'n' through and proud of it.

Married to the present Mrs Waddo (Julie Mayer), two children by the first Mrs Waddo, one step-son, two grandkids, three cats and a ukulele.

After 14 years in exile, I returned to my home town in 2005 to present the mid-morning show and have so far seen-off two producers, one of which is in rehab while the other was last seen selling matches on the Clock Tower.

Chris Brindley, Mid-Morning producer

'The Head of Blame'

The Mid-Morning team

The current 'head of blame' is a bright young thing called Mr Brindley.

His job is to harness the beast (me), and control our vast team; (broadcast assistant Juli Cook), and raving, roving radio car reporter, Julie Mayer.

The format is a lively mix of news, views, currents affairs, entertainment and music.

Julie Mayer

Julie Mayer out and about

I'm here to right wrongs and champion you if you're the underdog, help you save money, keep you safe, make you laugh and occasionally cry.

And I've recruited some experts in their particular field to advise. They appear on the show on a regular basis and I've even given them each a special mid-morning call sign:

A special request...

I've had so many requests for the clip of Julie laughing when she read out a particularly funny joke on air that I decided it should be made available on the web. So here it is:

Panel of Experts

And I've recruited some experts in their particular field to advise. They appear on the show on a regular basis and I've even given them each a special mid-morning call sign:

Herr Flicks

'Herr Flicks' aka James Russell is our film expert.

He regularly tells us what is worth seeing at the cinema as well as what is worth avoiding.

Dr Floppy

Dr Floppy

We also call on his opinion when the Oscars take place.

Dr Floppy

'Dr Floppy', also known as Peter Cousins, is our man with his finger on the mouse telling us how to work our computers.

Doc Holiday

He also offers tips and advice to ease the frustration when they don't work!

Doc Holiday

Mike Cox is our Doc Holiday.

He's a travel expert, and he tells us where the best places to go on holiday are.

Feelgood Fairy

Feelgood Fairy

More importantly though he makes sure we are not paying over the odds.

Feelgood Fairy

The "Feelgood Fairy" is Tina Bettison.

She's a real DIVA - a Divine, Intuitive, Vital woman with Attitude!

Booze News

Booze News

She's also smart, sassy, wise, bright, creative, a little wild but most of all, inspirational!

Booze News

Our 'Booze News' man is Duncan Murray.

He tells us all we need to know about wine and wine-tasting.

Tame Physio

Tame Physio

The mid-morning team (especially Tony) always like it when he comes into the studio as he never comes without a sample.

Tame Physio

If you have a bad back or stiff joints, then our Physio Ruth Cross can help you out.

We call her Tame Physio, and she regularly joins us on the show to answer your calls.

Dr Feet

Known to listeners as the 'Debt Doctor', Adam Markillie from Leicester Money Advice is on a mission to reduce listeners' personal financial burdens.

He's been there himself, so is well-qualified to offer advice on managing debt. In fact, several listeners still have a roof over their heads thanks to Adam's expert legal guidance.

So before you think about "consolidating your debts" - as we're constantly being urged to do, consult Adam for his advice - which comes free!
