Leicestershire is renowned for the diverse cultures and religions that make up it's population. Alongside BBC East Midlands Today, we'll be looking at the traditions, beliefs and also the misconceptions about religion. Firstly we'll be exploring Islam, which is followed by more than 70 thousand Muslims living in the East Midlands. Watch BBC East Midlands Today's Islam features... We begin with a look at the basic principles of the religion. Also two young Muslims give us an insight into what happens in one Madrasah in Leicester - an after-school class which teaches young people about the Muslim way of life. BBC Radio Leicester's Monica Winfield held a debate on her show on 31 August to discuss whether the different cultures in Leicester and Leicestershire live together or side by side? You can listen to the debate here... Her guests included Hamza Vayani, a member of a group called Youth Voice in Leicester and Chino Gabon who's from the Race Equality Council in Leicester.
