Leicestershire's fast-bowling Stuart Broad has been selected for the one-day England squad for the six matches against Pakistan. Broad's call-up is a great fillip for his county, Oakham School where he was a pupil and for his colleagues who have helped to nurture him from the academy, through the second eleven and in to first class cricket. BBC Leicester's Chris Egerton spoke to Stuart Broad and his father Chris Broad, former England cricketer himself, about the call-up... Stuart says he's delighted to have been named in the England one-day international squad, he said: "Every cricketer and every kid dreams of playing for England! But I've not done it yet, I'm only in the squad." On his feelings about the matches ahead he continued, "I'll go and I'll enjoy it. I've dreamt about it all my life, which isn't that long. I'll just treat it as another game and enjoy it." Like father, like son Stuart's father, Chris Broad, is no stranger to an England team selection being a former England cricketer himself.

Talking about his son's achievement he said: "I'm excited but probably more nervous. I don't know how he's going to fare with it and there's an element of the father in me who wants to put an arm around him and guide him through it." But Chris definitely thinks he's ready for the challenge only 15 months of first class cricket: "He's not only grown as an individual physically but mentally as well and he's such a confident lad." Former Leicestershire bowler Charles Dagnall spoke to BBC Radio Leicester's John Shaw about Broads selection for the England team... Dagnall said: "Broad has been handled in the right way. He's been given good size spells so he can learn his trade. | "He's ready for this, ready for the England shirt and those huge crowds..." | | Charles Dagnall - former Leicestershire cricketer |
The is no one more deserving of this honour and especially as he is only 20 years old - Leicestershire and he should be very proud." It was only in June last year that Broad made his county debut at Oakham school and Dagnall agrees this is a great achievement after only 15 months of first class cricket. He said: "What a meteoric rise. He's ready for this, ready for the England shirt and those huge crowds in one-day international cricket. A winning attitude Charles puts Broad's success down to a few special attributes: "It's his attitude. He absorbs information and uses it to his benefit, he's carefree and doesn't let outside things bother him and also his stature - he's currently 6ft 7in'. He can bowl, bat and field too!"
