Parminder swinging around the pole

Parminder Goes Pole Dancing

By Parminder Dosanjh
A few months ago BBC Leicester reported on a new kind of exercise being taught in the city - pole dancing. Reporter Parminder Dosanjh went along to Strictly Pole Dancing to try it out...

It's so much easier and fun keeping fit these days, you no longer have to put yourself through a 100 star jumps or fitness video's with smiley super fit women in pink leotards to be healthy.

More women are looking for interesting ways to keep there bums and tums in shape and one of them is pole dancing!

Yes, we're talking about THE dance usually associated with seedy lap dancing clubs and sleazy men, a sexy service provided by incredibly fit women seductively spinning around a long metal pole.

So why are so many women taking it up?  Surely the appeal is more than just a six pack?

After one evening of vigorous hip movements combined with slow rippling body movement, the appeal becomes apparent.

Strictly Pole Dancing is a class for women from all walks of life.  In my class there was a business woman, a mother and daughter, a student and ME.

Stripping off only our inhibitions, the class followed pole dance instructor, Genevieve, who demonstrated a few hot looking moves.

Don't look down...

Admittedly, two hours of giggles and swivels does wake those happy hormones and you definitely feel sexy!

Genevieve said that pole dancing is increasing in popularity:

"You'd be surprised at how many women are interested in learning pole dancing, I'm self taught and have never danced in a club. I see this as an art form"
