China Talks offers a range of events catering for everyone. All events and activities are free and operate on a 'drop in' basis unless otherwise stated. This year within the solar calendar, the Moon Festival falls on 06 October. On this day, families will eat special 'moon cakes' and study the moon by lantern light to see if they can see 'Chang-e' the lady who lives there with a little rabbit. Workshop suitable for ages 8 – 13 years. Places limited to 10 per session so booking is essential. Saturday 21 October 10:00 – 11:45, 12:15 – 14:00, 14:15 – 16:00 New Walk Museum & Art Gallery Chinese Festivals occur throughout the year. As the Chinese and Western calendars are different, festivals fall on different dates each year. Each festival is rich in excitement and participation and is a very important part of Chinese tradition. The festivals highlighted in this workshop will increase awareness of these special celebrations. Workshop suitable for ages 6 - 11 years. Origami Workshop Monday 23 October 10:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 16:00 New Walk Museum & Art Gallery Create your own origami sculpture and installations and learn intricate origami skills with artist Kim Lee who combines traditional and contemporary techniques and designs. The sculptures will be exhibited in the BBC Leicester Open Centre. Open to all age groups. Noodles and Chinese Flower Tea Wednesday 25 October 10:30 - 12:30 BBC Radio Leicester, St Nicholas Place Hand-pulled noodles (la mian) are made without the use of a machine. Chefs, who spend years perfecting their technique, repeatedly fold and twist a lengthy rope of dough until, as if by magic, it separates into thin strands.
