Fifteen poets who have experienced mental health problems are staging a special show in Leicester.

The Brighter Side will be held at Phoenix Arts Centre in Newarke Street on 26 January.

It will be hosted by poet and comedian Rob Gee who has also worked as a psychiatric nurse.

The show is the result of workshops he has been running with people who have had mental illnesses and other psychological difficulties.

Mr Gee, aged 33, from Highfields, says the performance is a pilot project and will hopefully lead to more events being staged in the future.

He says the scheme is not about people airing their problems.

Mr Gee said: "This isn't just a bunch of poets talking about mental health - the whole point is to get away from that and show that they're ordinary people".

Tickets costing £4 (£2 concessions) can be booked on 0116 2554854.

The price includes a free copy of Bubble psychological arts magazine.
