About Ben...

Hobbies: Ben enjoys collecting old cars and cooking. He is always delighted when listeners help him out with recipes and ideas for an extra-special feast!

Stephen was born in Somerset, but his family's roots on his mother's side go back in the Melton Mowbray area over six hundred years.  He's married with a son and a daughter.

He first worked for the BBC as a student at Radio Durham, one of the first BBC local stations.

He then worked in London as a Studio Manager for the World Service at Bush House and for Radio 4 at Broadcasting House before returning to local radio and Leicestershire.

The history man

Stephen has degrees in Psychology and History.  He has always had a fascination for local history and has written quite a number of articles about Leicestershire for various journals and magazines.

His book on Central Leicester in old photographs was published in 2005 and is just about to be reprinted.

Hobbies in addition to delving into the past?  Photography, and growing his own fruit and veg on his allotment.
