A Leicestershire man has delivered vital medical supplies to earthquake-hit Pakistan. Zuffar Haq, aged 39, is chairman of International Hospital Relief, which collects and delivers aid to disaster zones. Mr Haq spent six days in Islamabad and Muzaffarabad taking blankets and medical equipment to seven hospitals.

The father-of-two, from Oadby, says he was shocked by the amount of casualties. He said: “I was horrified by the number of trucks rolling into the hospitals. In half an hour I saw three army trucks arrive jam-packed with patients. | "I was horrified by the number of trucks rolling into the hospitals. “One hospital only had seven doctors available to operate on 700 people.” Mr Haq, who also runs a discount shop in Leicester, says the relief work was very tiring. He said: “I only managed to sleep in a bed for two of the nights I was there – and I was also fasting because it was Ramadan. “But the adrenaline kept me going – I was just driven by how desperate the situation was.” Donations can be sent to International Hospital Relief, PO Box 8051, Leicester LE21 3AD. |
