Lowri Foden

Looking after Lowri

By Jessica Rose
A Loughborough mum and dad whose daughter has a rare genetic disorder are appealing for support for a charity which could help her. Peter and Bethan promote the work of RSAUK and Jeans for Genes, which have helped them and Lowri, aged six.

A Leicester dad has swapped his desk job for dusting and become a house husband so he can look after his ill daughter.

Six year old Lowri Foden was born with Rett Syndrome, which mainly affects girls.

Peter said: “She can’t walk or use her hands properly and sometimes has breathing problems. She also has a learning disability.”

Father of three Peter, aged 42, gave up his job as an historical archivist to care for his daughter.

Lowri’s mum, 41-year-old Bethan, works full time to support the family.

The couple, who have two other children - daughter Elin, aged 13, and 11-year-old son Huw – now support the Rett Syndrome Association UK (RSAUK), which Bethan is a trustee of.

They also support the charity Jeans for Genes.

Peter says supporting the organisation could offer other youngsters with Rett Syndrome a better chance.

He said: “Hopefully if enough money is raised there could one day be a cure.”
