Will you be my boyfriend?

Dial a date

By Jessica Rose
For nervous men who dread ringing women, help is at hand. Former De Montfort University student Madison Lee has helped to design virtual girlfriends who can appear on the screen of a mobile phone. Now there's no excuse not to practise chat-up lines!

A former Leicester student has helped to create a mobile phone game to help men with their dating skills.

Madison Lee, aged 24, works as a 3D animator designer for US-based company Artificial Life in his home city of Hong Kong.

The company's game features “virtual girlfriends” which players have to keep happy with flowers and presents.

Madison was employed by Artificial Life after gaining a degree in multi-media design at De Montfort University.

The game is still being tested and will be marketed in Taiwan, America, Japan and Singapore.

Artificial Life is also hoping to introduce it to the UK.

Madison says aiming games at mobile phone users is the way forward.

"The use of mobile phones is increasing every year – which means the market for developing games for them is getting bigger."

He said: “The use of mobile phones is increasing every year – which means the market for developing games for them is getting bigger.”

“The game has ten stages and in each one you meet different girls.

“They all have individual personalities – some of them are loud and talkative and some of them are quiet.”

“It takes up to two weeks to create a character – and the environment they move around in also takes about a fortnight to set up.”
