Peace Burial At Sea are set to hit Leicester in a blaze of feedback, screaming and paranoia, if their press cuttings are to be believed. With members hailing from rural Northumberland and inner city Newcastle, the self-proclaimed art rockers are set to tear the roof off the Shakespeare's Head with their blend of melody and aggression. | "Fuelled by Roni Size as much as Slint and ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and Mogwai." | | Organ magazine |
Named after a painting by JM Turner, they are seemingly influenced by such diverse names as Radiohead and Earthtone9. On their debut album, 'This is Such a Quiet Town' they switch effortlessly between passages that evoke the melancholy of everyday life and searing aggression that threatens to shred the throat of vocalist/guitarist Jonny Longrigg as well as their instruments. Parts of the album even resemble the intense, repetitive bleakness of the legendary Big Black, and that's quite a compliment.

They've garnered quite a bit of critical acclaim recently, being described as being 'fuelled by Roni Size as much as Slint and And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and Mogwai' (Organ), 'A rewarding and individual beast whose sardonic humour and asphyxiating ambience are just about unparalleled' (Manchester Music Scene) and with a "grasp of dynamics hints at what Slint and Radiohead would've sounded like had they ever been locked in a room together (Kerrang!). Appearing with Peace Burial at Sea will be TEAM ('[they] wield an amalgam of apocalyptic noise that rips through other bands like a chainsaw through flesh' - Kerrang!), Public Relations Exercise (described in their own words as 'death pop') and local lads Tired Irie (dual vocalists, dark and intense and influenced by Sonic Youth and Fugazi, amongst others). Should be a belter. |
