Picked up by Alan McGee for his Poptones label, this young and fast playing band are building something of a reputation as a live act. In the early days, the band were even initially refused entry to gigs for being underage. Yet lead singer Tom Atkins is apparently a little like a blond Pete Doherty, thin and ragged beyond his years. The high expectations placed on them after touring with Babyshambles and Har Mar Superstar early on seem to be becoming realised with a series of well received dates throughout the country.

With only one single release currently to their name, the short, fast and excellent '21', it’s hard to know if the overall quality level will always be that high, but b-sides 'Some Old Girl' and 'She’s Got It' hint at an explosive live performance well worth seeing. The band say that early on The Strokes were perhaps their biggest influence, but they also state a liking for old school punk like The Clash, Pistols, Buzzcocks and Johnny Thunders. They have been described as being a little like The Sex Pistols performing Oasis’ rockier tracks in the style of The Clash. An album is in the pipeline, but in the meanwhile the band just keep on touring. They somewhat ambitiously describe their new single Panic Attack, due for release on 25 April as “the perfect punk single”. It'll be interesting to see if they can live up to this self-imposed hype. |
