General Khaki
General Khaki - shooting from the hip

General Khaki we salute you

By guest writer Clark Summers
Joining the glut of military inspired bands, General Khaki are on the move across the country, stopping off in Leicester.

Atten-shun!… East London garage rockers General Khaki bring their glorious racket to the Shed this month. Formed by a mysterious, svengali like figure (known only as GK) the three-piece consisting of Tommy Mack (vox/guitars), Kat Stevens (bass/backing vox) and Dan McKennan (drums/backing vox) are already garnering a reputation as one of the capital’s finest live bands.

The band recently supported Babyshambles on tour and now they’re heading out on the road to recruit further fans to their cause and conscription will not be needed!

GK’s approach to music is reminiscent of The Clash at their most adventurous with the band’s sound incorporating elements of punk, garage, hardcore and ska to potent effect. It’s this eclectic approach to music making that sets the band apart from their peers, that and their neatly tailored uniforms of course!

Celebrity admirers include Goldblade’s John Robb and the list is set to grow with the imminent release of hook laden debut single “Good Guys and Bad Guys” on 1-2-3-4 Records.

Lyrically the song takes a sideswipe at the media’s coverage of the war on terror which in the words of bassist Kat “(paints) very obvious stereotypes of shiny-teethed apple pie lovin' Americans fighting for freedom”.

General Khaki play The Shed on Tuesday 29 March. Tickets are available on the door.
