The developers of the old Filbert Street site have honoured ex-Leicester City footballer and England captain Gary Lineker by naming a road running through the new development after him. The new housing development 'L1' sits on the ground where Leicester City played their home games for over 100 years and provides 242 new homes. | "I can't believe that there is now a little place of Leicester with my name on it, it's a real honour and I am extremely proud." | | Gary Lineker |
The Foxes Trust was consulted as to who should have the road named after and Gary Lineker topped the poll. Lineker opened the road on a visit to the city and is delighted by the gesture. "I can't believe that there is now a little place of Leicester with my name on it. It's a real honour and I am extremely proud. "Leicester was both my home and the place where I developed my football career and I am delighted," says Lineker. The road naming set us off thinking.
