While much of Leicester's once-thriving shoe industry has been usurped by cheap imports, the city-based manufacturers of this wipe-clean fetish-wear are doing a roaring trade. Not surprisingly, most of their trade is via mail-order but customers come from every corner of the globe. Hay Way has been making "kinky boots" for 30 years and is still a family concern. Brother Philip and Peter and their wives Debbie and Jackie, all work at outlet on Corporation Road.

Debbie says the factory is a panto dame's dream: "We are busier at Christmas because of all the shows. We've just done something for a London show called Erotica.
