Mark and
the rest of his collective were bored with the lack of clubs putting
on nights playing the kind of underground house they are in to.
So, instead of moaning about it and staying in with their 12 inches,
the collective - now known as MWD40 - decided to set up their own
night.
The Attik was kind enough to offer the group a night each month where
they could show the Leicester clubber what they had been missing.
"We started off as bedroom DJs. We noticed how, in Leicester,
the club scene got quite poor and there was not anyone who was playing
good deep house music," says Mark.

Wright says the MWD40 nights plug a local gap. |
Their decision to go public with their beats coincided with The Attik's
refurbishment and 13 nights later, the idea has gone down a storm.
More than a simple bish-bash set-up, the group offer something for
everyone interested in the house style, but with knobs on.
"Dave, Will and I play deep house funk groove. We also have Kelly
who plays all the soul and disco. Downstairs we have Ken and Tim and
they play hip hop beats and elctro," adds Mark.
Mark sees night such as his as a way of people, bored with the usual,
to make a difference by setting up their own nights and attracting
an not yet served audience. |
