This
is The Queens first visit to Leicester for nine years.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived by rail at London
Road and travelled from the station into Granby Street and
Gallowtree Gate to the Sporting Statue.
At
the statue, The Queen presented Sportaid awards to 13-year-old
Nafalyia Francis - who is a hurdler, and 15-year-old Jamie
Oughton, a canoeist.
The
royal party walked along Humberstone Gate and took in street
performers, displays and stalls.
The Queen then proceeded by car to the Sikh Guru Nanak Gurdhwara
in Holy Bones, with Prince Philip splitting from the party
to open the Leicester Cathedral Visitors Centre
In the afternoon, the royal party attended a function at the
National
Space Centre before continuing to Pride Park in Derby,
where The Queen's Jubilee Tour continued.
