The Devon History Society was founded in 1969 to further the knowledge and study of the county's history. Its members range from enthusiastic amateurs to senior academic historians.

The Devon Family History Society was founded in 1976, and now has over 4,000 members. Its aims include promoting the study of genealogy and history and encouraging the preservation and transcription of relevant documents and records.
