On
Friday night I received an email saying "last minute gig tomorrow
night".
All
I knew was that the main headliners were Ripon band The Call. I
cleared my diary (which took all of two seconds) and made my way
to Joseph's Well.
The
Call seem to be carving a niche in the music scene. Think of Stereophonics,
The Las, Coral, and you will get some idea of their music.
However, dont let that put you off, they still have a style
of their own.
They
are quite a young band but have a very mature stage presence, especially
Neil Chapman, the lead singer, whose voice is a cross between
Kelly Jones and Rod Stewart.
Most
of their set list was comprised of tracks
from their forthcoming, as yet, unnamed EP including the excellent
Let's Keep This Quiet, which does not live up to its title!
Ripon
are not known for being the breeding ground for new talent, but
they have obviously made an exception with The Call. I defy anyone
not to be tapping their feet to the sound by the second song! Hopefully
they will not "keep quiet", and come back to Leeds very
shortly.
I,
for one, can't wait.
