Dave
Lewis, David Gloan and Alan Harris are three musicians who have
developed a music night with a difference.
The
format differs from original karaoke in that the musical backing
is completely live.
Singing
along live is something that people find a little daunting and challenging.
As
guitarist David Gloan explains: "It's the opposite to karaoke
really. We have a professional bass, keyboard and guitar and people
get up and sing.
"It
can be frightening. It's the same set-up and feeling as big stars
get going on stage."
"Anyone
is welcome to join in - there are no restrictions on ability or
age."
Straight face
David, who has more than 41 years experience of the music business,
and his colleagues always manage to keep a straight face during
the performance they are backing. And there is no criticism - every
singer is a star.
In
the three months that the night have been operating there have been
acts as diverse as professional jazz singers, a barbershop quartet,
poets, comedians, local folk singers and even a synagogue cantor
singing opera.
The
fun starts around 9pm every Monday night, upsatirs at the Queen's
Arms pub in Chapel Allerton.
