Pound for a Pup takes off
Pound for a Pup
Can you spare at least a pound for a pup?
The BBC Radio Leeds Pound for a Pup appeal aims to raise £150,000 over the year.

This money will allow the station, its listeners and web users to buy five guide dogs and cover all the training and living costs.

FACTS

It costs around £35,000 to breed, train and support each guide dog.

There are currently almost 5000 guide dog partnerships in the UK.

The working life of a guide dog is about 7 years.


The first four guide dog units in Britain were trained in October 1931.

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association was founded in 1934

In 1965 Blue Peter followed guide dog Honey through her training.

The goal is to sponsor these five guide dogs for life giving freedom and independence to visually impaired people in West Yorkshire.

This appeal will support these very special puppies for life from breeding, 18 months of training, matching each dog with the right blind or visually impaired person, after-care visits and support to caring for each dog in its retirement. Not to mention covering the full cost of vaccinations, vets bills, food and all equipment.
