Whilst yesterday was the most physically demanding day, today was the emotional. Our son Steven's 7th birthday was always going to be a low point for Jane. We were provided with a satellite link-up between Jane in Italy and Steven, Rebecca and I in Leeds. A two minute conversation on air was followed by a 20 minute one off camera.

This was a surprise to Jane as she was able to see the children via monitor. The link up could be unsettling for Jane and we all hope that she returns to the saddle tomorrow not too despondent. With still 80% of the ride left she need to keep a focus on the challenge.

As for the cycling, an easy day of 70 miles (I know, I feel embarrassed about making such glib remarks) and a further seven hours in the saddle.

The highlight was being able to watch the Giro Italia (Tour of Italy) cycling in reverse what Jane had done yesterday with smaller climbs. That said the cycling aficionados said it was a tough stage with two second category climbs which says something for Jane and Luke are achieving.

As predicted the rest day on Thursday has been cancelled as Jane will ride to the Cannes film festival from Monaco. Does Jane have a film career beckoning? About as likely as getting some funds from the wealthy folk with the yachts in the harbour.

Tomorrow's stage heads down the coast to Alassio, quite a milestone as it's the last full day in Italy, Arrivederci.
