City-wide
celebrations are planned including music, stage, activities and
exhibitions.
Among
the events is an exhibition looking at black history and
culture, to be held in the Town Hall Crypt venue (20 to 25 October),
featuring a history of reggae music display, assisted by BBC Radio
Leeds.
Other
exhibitors will include the Barbados Association, the Jamaican Society
and Leeds' Racial Harassment Project.
Also
lined up will be a celebration of the New World Steel Pan Orchestra
at the Town Hall on
Friday 24 October 2003 at 7pm. The orchestra was formed in 1984
in Chapeltown.
At
Abbey House Museum there will be a Wonderful World multicultural
craft fair (Tuesday 28 October, 1pm - 3pm. No booking necessary.
Normal admission charges apply. Wednesday 29 October, from 10.15am
for playschemes and larger groups. Booking essential, cost 50p per
person).
Leeds
Central Library will hold a day to celebrate Black History on
Saturday 8 November with activities and exhibitions for the whole
family including story-telling, music, poetry, displays and talks.
The
African Children's Choir,
which has previously performed around the world, will perform in
the Town Hall in a fundraising event organised by BBC Radio Leeds.
The concert takes place on 7 and 8 December at Leeds Town Hall.
