Gingerbread: The plot

When Cyd gets home to her family for the summer holidays she is in a very 'teenage' state of mind! Boyfriend troubles, parent troubles, little brother troubles. When she meets the lovely 'Shrimp' her mother finally decides she has had enough of her troublesome teenage daughter and sends her to holiday with her 'real' father in New York...

Gingerbread book cover

This story is about a 16-year-old girl called Cyd Charisse, (who carries a doll everywhere with her called Gingerbread), who also has been expelled from her posh New England boarding school.

Through the summer she meets a cool surfer dude called "Shrimp" and she embarks on a relationship, which her mother doesn't approve of.

Cyd Charisse is then in more trouble with her mother.

Her mother desperately tries to find things for Cyd to do throughout the summer, but to no avail.

Her mother decides to send her to stay in New York with her "real" father, who gave her the doll, Gingerbread when they first met in an airport when Cyd was 5 years old.

The summer changes direction completely when firstly, "Shrimp" says he thinks they should take a break from each other for a while and secondly when she shares things with her mother, that she has tried to keep under wraps.

Cyd Charisse then decides to face up to what she has kept hidden.

Will Cyd stay with "Shrimp" or will she not? And will she get on with her real father?

Well I know but you will have to read this great book to find out!

This book is great for teenagers because it highlights the fact that there is always someone to talk to if you have a problem!

Happy reading!!
