Brewery Wharf - Leeds waterfront

Leeds reflected in Brewery Wharf

Water, water everywhere

Following last year's inaugural event the Leeds Waterfront Festival is back for 2009.

The festival, bringing the waterfront to the heart of the city, runs over two days, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July 2009 and will take place in three places - Brewery Wharf, Clarence Dock and Thwaite Mills.

The festival hopes to attract visitors down to the waterside to enjoy a weekend of arts and entertainment. The programme will feature activity on the water including cruises, music, street theatre, walks by Leeds Civic Trust and a market.

One highlight will be a narrowboat parade through the waterfront area on Sunday 12 July.

Also taking place on the Leeds waterfront is a Dragon Boat Race in Clarence Dock on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June.

Rachel Clunas, project officer for Aire Action Leeds, says: “Last year the festival was a huge success and this year we want to do even more. The aim is to bring more and more people to the waterfront... And best of all – it's free.”

The Leeds Waterfront Festival is organised by Aire Action Leeds which is a partnership made up of British Waterways, The Environment Agency, Leeds City Council, Yorkshire Water and Waterfront Association.
