There's now less reason to get your car out for a short city centre journey in Leeds. Leeds is one of eight cities mapped on the website www.walkit.com, that was launched in April 2008, and the website has won the Most Innovative Transport Project at the National Transport Awards. ![]() Briggate: walking only The website helps to get people walking in and around Leeds city centre by providing clear walking routes on an online map with information on the distance covered, how long the walk will take (at different walking speeds), the number of calories that will be burnt by the walker and the amount of CO2 saved by not using a vehicle for the same journey. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites The other cities covered on the website include Aberdeen, Birmingham, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Newcastle. Councillor Andrew Carter says: “Walking is often the quickest way to get from A to B in the city centre and also helps to reduce congestion and pollution while helping walkers burn off calories, keep fit and stay healthy."
