About Sadie"My name is Sadie Edwards and I am from Shedfield near Southampton and after taking a year out, I am in my first year of study at Leeds Metropolitan University." I moved to Leeds in July 2007 to go to University and am really enjoying the experience so far. The vibrant city life is completely different from what I am used to, being a secret country bumpkin, but I could not be happier with the metropolitan culture. It used to take me an hour to get a pint of milk but now I can just pop down the road in my slippers! I decided to move straight into a house rather than opting for halls. However, I cannot help but wonder if I have made some grave mistake and if I am missing out on a key part of University life. Although I do go out and enjoy myself I feel as though the whole Freshers season came and went without me and I have to try twice as hard just to catch up. The only time I have dressed up was for Halloween and I have yet to dance on a table or make a complete idiot out of myself on the Otley Run! Don't get me wrong, I am sure living in halls does have its disadvantages, living in a house means I get to pay bills every month, replace the refrigerator light and argue over whose turn it is to pay for handwash! Most of all I am dreading the summer. Leeds seems to shut down around the University holidays and there is nothing to do. Coming from so far down South I had to move in when the rent on my house began – in July but I appear to be the only person that needs to do this. While I like living in an area where there are so many Universities and colleges and consequently, people my age to meet and mingle with, I just wish some would stay for the summer! But for now, I am just going to concentrate on getting through my first year of University life relatively unscathed. last updated: 29/01/2008 at 17:35 |
