Junior Football match reportsYou are in: Leeds > Junior Football > Junior Football match reports > Swings and roundabouts Swings and roundaboutsMixed fortunes for the junior teams of Woodkirk Valley as the Under 7s win both their games but the Under 9s are roundly beaten in both of theirs. Sunday 27 January 2008 Game 1 Holbeck Boys Under 7s 1 - 4 Woodkirk Valley Under 7sValley got back to winning ways as they took on the high winds to beat Holbeck Boys. The pitch was small and some good work from Woodkirk's midfield trio resulted in a great through ball for Mellard who scored his first of the game. Woodkirk's keeper was again in top form pulling off a string of fine saves, but had to thank Auty for coming to his rescue to clear off the line. Auty then linked up with Mellard again for his second. With Milner biting in midfield it wasn't long until Valley got their reward for some neat play and the third goal of game, and soon after Auty managed to curl the ball straight in from a corner for Valley's fourth. Holbeck were rewarded for their efforts with a late consolation goal. Game 2 Holbeck Boys Under 7s 1 - 2 Woodkirk Valley Under 7sValley looked to keep their unbeaten run going in the second game and Harrison wasted no time getting in the action, playing a cute pass to Man of the match Wilson for him to hit a brilliant finish. A tough-tackling Valley midfield made it difficult for Holbeck to get into the game and Wilson went close after a neat move out of defence. Some good play saw Troy finishing well into the bottom corner and giving the home keeper no chance. Holbeck did reply and for a brief period threatened to get back level, however their efforts were thwarted as Valley shuffled the pack and strengthened their defensive resolve. Harrison went close to netting a third as the final whistle went. ------------------------------------------------------- Garforth League Game 1 Garforth Villa Under 9s 5 - 0 Woodkirk Valley Under 9s (Blue)Woodkirk looked a determined side at the start but it was always an uphill struggle. A move out of defence saw Leadsford and Auty try a quick one-two, but Garforth intercepted and Wilson had to stop a goalbound effort. A sustained second attack by Garforth was held back before Sherwood finally got the vital clearance needed. Valley, now on the attack, saw Auty pass through to Leadsford who picked up Bentley on the wing and crossed to Leadsford, but his shot was pushed onto the post. The deadlock was broken as a deflected shot beat Parker to give Villa the lead which was quickly followed up by a second. Garforth tried to push home the advantage, but Woodkirk put on a great effort to match them until Villa managed a third just before half time. The second half held the same pattern but a clever move from Garforth and a precise shot brought the score to 4-0. Wilson showed the Woodkirk spirit and the pace was picked up, leading to a scramble in the Garforth goal mouth and all the parents screaming for the ball to go in! Fountain was brought on and soon contributed with some excellent passing. Garforth's final goal saw Parker injured after a heroic effort to get his hands on the ball. Woodkirk Man of the Match: Cross Game 2 Garforth Villa Under 9s 4 - 0 Woodkirk Valley Under 9s (White)Valley started brightly with good running from Loonat. Williams was unlucky as his shot rattled the post. Great defending by Ellis scooped the ball away from goal and quickly set up an attack. Play continued with good movement and a great save from Johnson. A quick, intelligent throw-in bypassed the rapidly approaching Villa and good defending from Wilson forced Villa's shot wide. Valley continued to attack but Kilroy was needed for some crucial defending approaching half time. Valley were 1-0 down at as the second half got underway and played with great belief. Unfortunately Villa then dealt a killer blow as they netted a quick second but Valley were still undeterred as they fought back and put pressure back on Villa. Substitute Lester made his mark on the game with some strong challenges. A Raine corner was almost converted by Kilroy but Villa's third goal was well deserved. The game finished with a fourth for Villa after an initial save by the keeper.
