Local music promoters and website The Music Guru Online have started their own acoustic music nights at The Royal Park Cellars. The first Sunday in each month will see a fine crop of songwriters and acoustic performers bringing new music to the public.

The new night is called "Hushhh! It's Sunday" and the first gig took place on Sunday 6 January 2008 featuring Loqui, Shatner, Dan McGlade from Rent, Captain Wilberforce and Micky P. Kerr who hosted the event as well.

The idea behind 'Hushhh! It's Sunday' is to give performers a platform to air their songwriting skills. Not necessarily the finished product, these artists may have their rough edges but the concept of the night is to show how the initial spark of inspiration can lead to somewhere else entirely.

Plus there is a chance to try things that are a little different to them. Many of the artists will be more familiar to gig-goers in other guises in bands but want to show a different aspect to their musicality.

The main thrust of the evening can be deduced from the title - the promoters like audiences who appreciate music. If you want to have a drink and a natter, you can do this in the bar area upstairs. They don't want people to experience decent artists struggling to make themselves heard above the din of a slightly drunken audience.

Hence the title of 'Hushhh! it's Sunday'. The Music Guru believe passing trade may be good for venues, but can be suicidal for musicians. They are hoping that their audience will try and listen to all the acts, and if they can't, they can always pop upstairs to the main bar area for a pint or seven!!

The next 'Hushhh!' will be held on Sunday 6 July 2008 at The Royal Park Cellars featuring Sketches, Man And Wife, Shatner, Glyn Bailey & The Many Splendid Things.

'Hushhh! It's Sunday' takes place at Royal Park Cellars, The Royal Park Pub in Hyde Park on the first Sunday of the month.
