This year’s festival features a roster of world-class artists including its artistic director, internationally renowned piano accompanist Roger Vignoles, and one of the UK's greatest singers, Dame Janet Baker. ![]() Elizabeth Watts Highlights of this year's event include recitals by internationally renowned artists Robert Holl, Mark Padmore, and Measha Brueggergosman and prize-winning young singers including newly appointed BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Elizabeth Watts also Winner of the 2007 Cardiff Singer of the World Song Prize and Classical Brit nominee Nicky Spence. There are also two new commissions: the world premières of 'Four Songs of Hafez' by Sally Beamish and Shimmerwords and Idle Songs by Kenneth Hesketh. The Classical Art Song of China is explored through a workshop and recital featuring the prize-winning traditional Chinese singer, Yanchuan Zhang, and renowned instrumentalists from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu Province. Dreamlives is a unique and haunting piece of music theatre exploring the impact of Freud's ideas on the music of his time, which won huge critical acclaim at its London première last year. The Composers and Poets Forum will include an appearance by well-known Yorkshire Poet, Ian McMillan and there will be various community projects for the deaf and severely disabled. Leeds Lieder takes place from Friday 12 October - Sunday 14 October 2007. Tickets are available from the Box Office at Leeds College of Music, St Peter's Square (next to the BBC).
