BBC Radio Leeds station infoYou are in: Leeds > BBC Radio Leeds > BBC Radio Leeds station info > Paul Carrington ![]() Paul Carrington in the studio Paul CarringtonFind out more about your favourite BBC Radio Leeds presenter. About meStar sign: Gemini (the split personality!) Grew up in: Shaw, Near Oldham… a little bit closer to the West Yorkshire border than Oldham! First Job: Apprentice electronics engineer First Car: A bottle green Fiat 850. You only ever see them in 1970's movies set in Italy. I loved that car, even though it failed to start every morning. My poor mum used to have push me till it would bump start, sometimes that could have been a mile or two. I'm sure she thinks I was doing it deliberately! First Record bought: Hhhmm, I think the first one I bought without my mum being there was Limmie and Family Cookin' "You Can Do Magic", either that or a Wombles song, Banana Rock or something! First Kiss: Me! On the back of my hand! Chicks used to physically wretch when they saw me approaching, a tradition which Mrs Carrington continues to this day! My favourite things:Food: Torn between Thai, Indian or Chinese. I'm a pig, I'd probably have all three! Drink: Real ales like Black Sheep from the fabulous Masham Brewery (Do I get a free crate for that?) Car: Toyota MR2 Mark II Film: The Wicker Man (Original 1973) TV Show: Hill Street Blues Music: Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Eagles are my all time faves, but I like so many different types of music, from classical to hard rock. Clothes: Ah, now, I am not - and never have been - a follower of fashion. Place in the World: Lourdas, Kefalonia Place in West Yorkshire: The lovely moors near Haworth and Bronte Country. Heroes: Not sure I "do" heroes, certainly not celebrities. But my inspirations in Radio would be Sir Jimmy, Noel Edmonds, Kenny Everett, Tony Blackburn. Outside of Radio, ordinary people with extra-ordinary tales of inspiration. My lovely wife Mrs Carrington is definitely my heroine. Zeroes: The fatuous, vacuous, witless world of "celebrities". Hobbies/Interests: I have a "laboratory" in my garden. I spend many hours "tinkering" with electronic gizmos until Mrs Carrington sends out the search party to see where I've been for the past eight hours. For example, I spend ages restoring pre-war valve "wirelesses". I love movies but not the American Blockbuster types. I obviously love music and spend hours listening to my wide and varied collection. I'm not a big reader, but I compensate with my collection of "Talking Books". My favourites are the BBC's adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories with Clive Merrison and Michael Williams - sheer brilliance, radio drama at its absolute best. And Finally…. What would you be if you weren't on the Radio? I've been in Radio for 25 years and it amazes me that I am still getting away with it! I really should make provisions for the day someone in authority finally susses me out! I'm a qualified electronics engineer, but since my qualifications came shortly after Marconi popped his clogs, I'd have a lot of catching up to do! last updated: 15/08/07 You are in: Leeds > BBC Radio Leeds > BBC Radio Leeds station info > Paul Carrington |
