The new scout troop
The new scout troop celebrates

Leeds' new scout troop

Scouts in Leeds are celebrating the launch of the first Muslim scout group in leeds.

Leeds Grand Mosque invested 15 new Scouts at once, one of the largest investiture ceremonies there has been in the city.

The Scout Leader for the new troop, Lasaad Laouini, who joined the Scout movement in Tunisia, says:

"It's taken six months to prepare the details. The neckerchiefs our Scouts will wear have been handmade in Morroco. The enthusiasm of the young people for the fun and challenge of scouting is very evident."

Richard Frank, the Scout Leader from the neighbouring 43rd Phoenix St Mary's Scout Group, in Burley, that has joined with the Grand Mosque in fostering the troop added: "For the first weekend we're off on a hike on Otley Chevin where the new troop will have a go at lightweight outdoors cooking for the first time."
