A group of Armley residents has launched a competition to find the best photographs of one of the city’s traditionally least picturesque suburbs for a calendar. The prize for the overall winning picture will be £200, and calendar proceeds will be re-invested in community projects. There will also be a prize for the best under-16 entry of £100. Charming Armley 2007 is organised by the Armley Tourist Board, a local voluntary group formed a year ago. The calendar will feature 14 of the best pictures. Anne McNeill, who will judge the pictures, says: “Armley may not be known for its picture postcard views but it does have huge charm and character and everyone will have their own interpretations of what that means. “It’s not a professional competition either – we welcome entries from experienced and novice photographers alike. The more the merrier.” The closing date for the competition is November 9 2006 and the calendar will be available from the beginning of December. Winning pictures will also be featured here on the BBC Leeds website. Further details or send your entries to: jamsiren@thearmleytouristboard.com |
